First-person horde shooter

Plush Landing

A comic teddy-bear beach landing: as a squirrel of the Redtail Garrison, hold Bramble Bluff against three waves of the Cuddle Corps from a mounted Nutcracker or a sniper's scope. Stuffing, not blood.

Needs a browser with WebGL 2. Best with a keyboard and mouse on a desktop or laptop. Phones and tablets get touch controls in landscape (turn the phone sideways) and use the low graphics setting. The menu has a quality setting for slower devices.

From the Nutcracker machine gun in a cliff-top bunker under an orange dawn sky, two landing craft full of teddy-bear soldiers have reached the waterline, with a line of warships on the horizon, beyond a sandy beach of craters, stakes, crossed-beam obstacles and rows of barbed wire.

A little about the game

Dawn on Bramble Bluff. You are a squirrel of the Redtail Garrison in the cliff-top trench, and landing craft full of the Cuddle Corps' teddy-bear soldiers, who believe very sincerely in the Group Cuddle, are making for the beach. Hear the whistle, and six seconds later the ramp drops. Rifle Teds wade up the sand popping corks at you, and Snips in hazard yellow head for the barbed wire with giant scissors, so a cut line lets the crowd through. Hold them from the Nutcracker machine gun in Nest 2 (fire in bursts, or it overheats), pick off the Snips with the Longshot rifle before the wire goes, and fall back on the Acorn Pistol, a trench spade and Pinecone grenades. Every hit is a burst of stuffing and a squeak; squirrels just go down seeing stars. Ten bears hugging the Acorn Standard behind the trench loses the bluff, and you have three Reserves to get back on your feet. A Bot intelligence slider in the Play menu (0 to 100, 50 is the standard challenge) makes the bears slower and less accurate or quicker to target and smarter about the wire and cover, without changing their health or damage. This is the first playable slice: three waves on one map, with Nest 2, the Longshot and two kinds of bear. More waves, more bears and online play come in later builds.

Your first few minutes

Press Start the Landing. The mouse locks to the game; if you see "Click to play", click the game. You start inside Nest 2, the bunker in the middle of the line, right behind its gun: walk up to it and press E to man it. Fire in short bursts at the bears coming off the craft, and watch the wire rows on the right of the screen. When a Snips starts cutting, press E to leave the gun, press 1 for the Longshot and right-click to scope him; hold Shift to steady your aim. If you go down, you are back at the depot behind the trench a few seconds later. Between waves there is a 30 second Lull: grab the crate at the depot, or hold F to skip it. Hold through wave 3 to finish the slice.
